Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church Announces Readiness for Same-Sex Weddings

Press Release. 2 January 2015.

Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church (BBUUC) is proud of its heritage as an advocate for inclusion and equality in the Jacksonville area. As part of this tradition, BBUUC celebrates the legal recognition of same-sex marriages in Florida.

BBUUC’s Welcoming Congregation Ministry (WCM) will be able to provide information about resources available through the congregation for people interested in scheduling same-sex weddings. BBUUC has long offered commitment ceremonies for the LGBTQ community, and the church facilities will be available for licensed and officially recognized same-sex weddings at a discounted rate for couples taking advantage of the new court rulings. The Welcoming Congregation Ministry can be reached at lgbtq_welcoming@bbuuc.org.

BBUUC chaplains, interfaith ministers and UU-fellowshipped ministers are experienced in performing ceremonies for people from several faith traditions. Ceremonies at BBUUC may range from traditional to eclectic, and may be designed to suit the needs and desires of a particular couple. BBUUC facilities can be scheduled by contacting admin@bbuuc.org.

BBUUC has a proud history of welcoming members of the LGBTQ community into the congregation. BBUUC has been certified as a “Welcoming Congregation” within the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). In order to attain this status, the BBUUC membership has engaged in a UUA-defined process designed to improve understanding of issues facing the LGBTQ community. During this process, BBUUC has taken concrete, intentional steps to improve our welcoming and inclusive environment for people who may have been marginalized because of sexual orientation or gender identity.
