Title:
But What will the Sign Say?
Speaker:
Dr. Mark Yount (BBUUS Member)
Lay Leader:
To be determined
How exciting that we’ll have our own building: a gathering place always there for us, dry rooms for our children, sanctuary, and an inviting beacon of our faith for the larger community. But what are we? Sheep come in flocks, wolves in packs, fish in schools. UUs come in societies, congregations, churches, and fellowships, to name only the most popular designations. Hard to argue that Unitarian Universalism isn’t a religion, but does that make us a church? Mark’s sermon will question and reflect on who we are, the role of liberal religion, and what our presence can mean to our community. What is the sign they will know us by?
Speaker’s Bio: Since joining BBUUS in 1997, Dr. Mark Yount has given over 60 sermons, chaired committees, served on the Board, and has been a Youth Adviser. Mark taught philosophy for 12 years at Trinity College (Hartford), St. Joseph’s (Philadelphia), and Jacksonville University. He has degrees in Philosophy from William and Mary (BA), Villanova (MA), and University of Colorado at Boulder. Our “philosopher in residence” is currently editing a book of essays drawn from his BBUUS sermons.
