Voices of a Liberal Faith

Unitarian Universalism is a 400-year-old tradition, with roots over a thousand years old and more than 100,000 current members in North America. The Unitarian Universalist Association was formed by the merger of the Unitarian and Universalist denominations in 1961. Both denominations had moved away from prescriptive creeds, doctrines, and tests of faith. They emphasized individual freedom of personal belief, individual responsibility to synthesize one's own religious philosophy and personal spiritual practices, the importance of social justice and social change, in cooperation and communion with one another.


What Unitarians believe will vary from one individual to another, but you will find our common affirmations expressed in our Principles and Purposes.


We are distinctly individual, yet bound together in our expectation of a better life for all people. We want to educate our children to a concern and appreciation for all people and for the natural world around us. We want our young to learn the history of the human race with all the errors and failings, the doubts and questions, the triumphs and victories. We want our children to distinguish lasting values from current fads, to conserve what is good and beautiful, and to grow to a sense of responsibility for their own time upon this earth.
